This review walks through Bloom Private one area at a time, so you can see what each part does before you download it. In short: everyday tracking is free and complete, fertility and birth control tools go further than most trackers, and everything is stored on your iPhone rather than on a server.
Daily tracking
The daily log is the heart of the app. You can record your period and flow, more than 60 symptoms, mood, sleep and energy, and free-text notes. Logging works on any day of your cycle, not only during your period, which matters if you want to understand symptoms in the days before it.
Predictions for your next period update as you log new cycles, and the calendar shows your current phase and cycle day.
Fertility tracking
For people trying to conceive or simply wanting to understand ovulation, the app records basal body temperature, cervical mucus, cervical position and LH test results. An estimated fertile window is shown from the start, and your luteal phase becomes personalized after two cycles with a detected ovulation. Premium adds a dedicated trying-to-conceive mode.
Birth control tools
Pill users get a visual blister for 21+7, 24+4, continuous 28-day and custom packs, plus reminders.
If you miss a pill, the app shows step-by-step guidance based on WHO and ACOG recommendations, with a reminder to check your pill leaflet or ask your doctor. Our web missed pill guidance works the same way in your browser.
Reports for your doctor
| Feature | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Basic PDF report | Yes | Yes |
| Full clinical PDF report | No | Yes |
| CSV export of period dates | Yes | Yes |
| Encrypted full backup (AES-256) | Yes | Yes |
The PDF is generated on your iPhone and shared only when you choose to share it.
Privacy and security
There is no account and no server. Your records stay on your iPhone, protected by iOS encryption, unless you choose to export them or turn on Apple Health, which is optional and off by default. You can lock the app with Face ID or Touch ID, and the App Store privacy label says "Data Not Collected".
Accessibility and design
The app supports Voice
Over, Dynamic Type, high contrast and reduced motion, and its charts include Audio Graphs. It is available in English, Spanish, German and French, on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later, with home and lock screen widgets.
Verdict
Bloom Private is a strong choice if privacy matters to you and you mainly use one Apple device. Its main trade-off is the lack of sync between devices. Remember that it is a tracking tool: it is not a medical device and not a contraceptive method.
